Zvartnots Airport is the main airport of Yerevan and the gateway to the Republic of Armenia. The Airport was originally built in 1960 and went through a substantial upgrading programme between 1980 and 1986. It is equipped with category II facilities and a VOR/DME for landing purposed. The pavement of the 3,800 m long runway was rehabilitated in 1993 and the runway has a length and a load bearing capacity that enable it to handle the largest commercial aircraft today.
The Airport is operated by Airport Zvartnots Yerevan, a 100% state-owned enterprise, to which EBRD granted a loan in Nov.1994 to implement the Air Cargo Terminal Project.
The project comprises four main components, the final being the Project Management for the implementation of the programme. Prior to the expiring of the Project Management Contract, a new Operating Contract must be assigned. For the purpose of assigning the Operating Contract, ADK was chosen to assist with the selection and recruitment of the operator and the preparation of the Operating Contract.
